View Your iPhone Locations
May 12th, 2011
A few weeks ago it came to light that iPhone’s kept a record of their previous locations, some people were rightly worried about this data being improperly used if their phone was ever stolen. Apple have since released an update (iOS 4.3.3) that will wipe this data and in the future keep less (or none) of this location data.
If you haven’t already updated to 4.3.3 you can get your location data and with the help of OpenPaths view it on maps and download it for your own use. Here’s mine;
As you can see, it’s not the most interesting map you’re ever likely to see – although there were a couple of discrepancies with the data, click on the map above to see a Europe wide version. Somehow my iPhone logged location entries in amongst the Greek Islands, Stuttgart, just outside Worchester back in England and then finally in middle of the Atlantic. These are either bugs in the reading of the location data stored on my iPhone – or my iPhone has a secret life when I’m asleep that I clearly don’t know about!
