That was 2011
December 28th, 2011
I’ve just had a read through my 2011 New Years Resolution blog post, to see what I was thinking this time last year and to see if I achieved some of the things I set out for this year. The post is more of a vague wish list rather than a point by point resolution and todo list — something I will do within the next week for 2012 — so it’s hard to put a score on how I did.
I think the main issue I had with 2011 was my work schedule and trying to fit in family life, my part-time day job and my freelancing, reading through my post and looking back on the year, I aimed too high and took on too much, so I’ll be changing things a little more dramatically next year. Outside of work I think I did fair a little better, I’ve spent so much more time with Finley this year than I would working a ‘normal’ 5 day week – which has been great. I’ve definitely gone completely digital, films and music are being purchased via iTunes (and a few other select stores), which has given me a couple of issues I hadn’t thought of before, better backups being one.
Finally my personal projects, I got a few done, started a couple more and didn’t get around to others. A mixed bag. I didn’t take more photos – which I’m not too upset about, I do think our monthly video highlights improved month on month and I released a handful of DJ mixes that I’m really happy about on my Musical Rant blog. The web based projects definitely needed to be more structured, setting aside time to focus and work on them, rather than squeezing them in-between client jobs – more on that in 2012′s New Years Resolutions blog post in about a week’s time.
If I had to score myself, I think a 6/10 is about right – need to try a little harder to get things finished, while focusing on fewer projects.
