Personal Projects

Personal projects are really important for designers. For me, they’ve been a source of inspiration for future projects, exposure and promotion for my skills, an additional source of income, and a place where I can experiment and test new ideas. They all involve either one of two passions of mine — music and T-Shirts!

Worm Sign T-Shirts
Built using WordPress and the eShop plugin, this store is most definitely real and not a demo – as some people have often asked. Creating Worm Sign was my first chance to put together an ecommerce website using WordPress and also an opportunity to design something other than websites – I also designed all the T-Shirts that are for sale on the site.

Musical Rant
This is a blog / podcast I built as a Tumblr theme, it contains a series of DJ mixes I started putting together in 2011. The theme features a chunky typographic header, a heavy effect footer and a single page per post. Musical Rant is actually an anagram of my name.

The Inflatable House
This was the first Tumblr theme I created, I had previously been using Tumblr as a secondary blog and wanted to learn more about building themes — hoping it could be used on future client projects. It’s a fairly simple theme, only using video posts at the moment and comments powered by Disqus.

DJ Martin Lucas
I’ve been DJ’ing since the late 1990′s and this website used to promote my DJ’ing has gone through many versions and redesigns, this being the latest. It features a fairly simple content management suite so I can quickly add news items, DJ mixes and gallery images.
